It’s a Good Day at TSA: June

June is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month!

Alzheimer’s disease takes a toll on both people with dementia and caregivers. The complex cognitive and behavioral changes make it hard to know whether a loved one is simply acting out or showing signs of Alzheimer’s.

Caregivers often experience high rates of stress and depression, feelings of burnout, or neglect their own health and well-being. Education is an important first step, so you know what to expect and the best ways to support your loved one and yourself.

Read the blog to gain practical tips on education, preparation, and self-care as you navigate caregiving for someone with Alzheimer’s disease.

The Senior Alliance also has a new Caregiving Haven page on the website, providing toolsresources, and connections that empower caregivers and their loved ones to focus on enjoying a fulfilling life together.

Star Performer of the Month, Kristin Holtz

Kristin Holtz Star of the Month

We are thrilled to honor Kristin Holtz as our Star of the Month! ???

Kristin is always willing to help and support the fun committee however she can. She serves in a dual role assisting with CM/CCS waitlist as well as updating the resource database.

Her manager, Alicia McDole, says:

“I want you to know I am super proud of what you do and your contributions are always valued.  You are always there to volunteer when we need participation for videos or work activities in general. You are a great asset to my team and a valued team player.”

Kristin jumped in to participate with two TSA videos and she was a star! When asked to help, Kristin’s response is always ‘Absolutely! What do you need?’ And she does it with a smile on her face.”

Thanks for making The Senior Alliance a FUN place to work!

Inside The Senior Alliance: Trends in Aging

Episode 45

Listen to our podcast Inside The Senior Alliance: “National Alliance on Caregiving.”

In this episode, Emma Case, Planning and Advocacy Specialist at The Senior Alliance, is joined by Toni Gingerelli, from the National Alliance for Caregiving. They talk about what the National Alliance for Caregiving is, and what kinds of services and support the NAC offers.

This episode discusses the latest survey of caregivers, including the changing demographics and age groups of caregivers. You’ll also learn about the advocacy work that NAC does on the Federal level to provide legislation and legal supports for caregivers around the nation, and how you can get involved in helping.

This is great information if you are a caregiver or want to be proactive in the future.

In part two, they discuss transportation issues, information & assistance for family members who are caring for aging adults, and the role technology plays in senior care. They also look at the changes that the COVID pandemic brought and what the future holds.

What drives you (to volunteer)?

Our nation’s aging population is growing rapidly, with more and more people living longer lives with less money available to them. And today, with our nation experiencing the highest inflation rate in 40 years, the aging population is especially vulnerable.

Many count on Meals on Wheels to provide for their most basic needs.

Meals on Wheels volunteers are essential to caring for our community’s most vulnerable. Sign up now and help us make a difference in Wayne County.
