Meals on Wheels
Nutritious Meals, Delivered to Your Door
Meals on Wheels reaches communities across the country through more than 5,000 independently run local programs. Each one looks a little different depending on the needs and resources of the community it serves, but they share a common purpose: helping older adults stay healthy, well-nourished, and living in their own homes.
In our service area, homebound adults age 60 and older can receive five nutritious meals delivered to their home each week. Each meal provides one-third of the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA).
Getting Started With Meals on Wheels
Two organizations share the work of Meals on Wheels in our area. The Senior Alliance oversees intake and enrollment. Wayne County Senior Services provides the meals, recruits volunteers, manages meal sites, and manages meal delivery.

Who Is Eligible
Meals on Wheels is available to individuals who are:
- Age 60 or older
- Homebound, meaning unable to leave home unassisted
- Home at the time of meal delivery
- Living in The Senior Alliance’s service area

When you’re exploring long-term care or community support options, person-centered counseling helps you understand what’s available and what best fits your needs. A trained counselor will walk you through services like in-home care, transportation, housing, caregiver respite, and other supports. Together, you’ll build a plan that reflects your goals, values, and preferences, so you or your loved one can remain independent and supported in the community.
