It’s a Good Day at TSA: October

A woman cares for her aging mother as a caregiver as part of Long-Term Care Planning Month.

In the United States, nearly 53 million adults are family or informal caregivers, according to the latest data from AARP. That’s 1 in 5 Americans who are caring for aging family members, friends, spouses, neighbors, or other loved ones who have disabilities, chronic illnesses, or otherwise need assistance with daily living or medical tasks. Most of these caregivers are women, and most are over the age of 50.

This October, during Long-Term Care Planning Month, we encourage caregivers to consider the long-term care needs of those they are caring for and how they can plan for the future. Learn more about the resources available through the online Caregiving Haven of The Senior Alliance and how you can plan for long-term care for yourself or a loved one.

Star Performer of the Month, Nikki Hartley

Nikki Hartley Star Performer of the Month

We are thrilled to honor Nikki Hartley as our Star of the Month!

Here’s what her manager, Amanda, has to say about her:

“Nikki has been a phenomenal employee since Day 1. She jumps into projects with full enthusiasm and works hard to ensure everything is done correctly and timely. She looks for ways to advance The Senior Alliance through outreach and communication with the public. She suggests new ways to do this often, such as scheduling volunteer recruitment events at local libraries and setting up outreach events in all municipalities to help people become aware of our resources.

Nikki is doing an amazing job with advocacy by increasing contacts and strengthening relationships with legislators in our region. She has doubled, if not already tripled, our contacts with legislators over what we had last year through her efforts. She regularly attends coffee hours and town halls, is a trusted contact for our legislators, and follows up with offices to provide timely information when needed. She also helped secure Older Michiganians Day resolutions and has taken the lead on Silver Key Coalition activities this year. She stays ahead of issues by keeping close track of policy and budget activity that may impact our programs and the people we serve.

I’m grateful she’s at The Senior Alliance and especially that she’s on my team!

Thank you, Nikki, for being a great addition to our team and for the hard work you do for our community!

Manager of the Quarter: Tara Murphy

Tara Murphy Manager of the Quarter

We are thrilled to honor Tara Murphy as our Manager of the Quarter!

Here’s what her Waiver Supports Coordinator, RN, Deb hast to say about Tara:

“Tara is a born educator. She has an innate quality to provide knowledge to those less brain-savvy without making the recipient feel foolish nor inferior. From day one, waaaay back in 2019, Tara made me feel welcomed, comfortable, and empowered with the knowledge that I would be successful in my role of Support Coordinator. She does this for each and every new employee.

Tara has a delightful personality (greatly needed) and is extremely patient. She holds a plethora of resources in that head of hers and graciously shares these on a daily basis.Tara will explain procedures and policies over and over and sideways until you get it. And next month, when you’ve forgotten–again–she’ll calmly draw you a picture.

Tara is able to fill in for our other Mighty Managers in a moment’s notice and has on many occasions.  She returns your calls in a timely fashion and provides any follow up required. She answers your questions thoroughly, and if she doesn’t know the answer, she’ll point you in the right direction. She’s a treasure to The Senior Alliance. Hang on to her tight. Don’t ever let her go.”

From all of us at The Senior Alliance, thank you, Tara, for all you do to make a difference at work and in our community!
