Honoring Caregivers in the Black Community

Caregiving is a labor of love that requires patience, selflessness, and resilience. Within the Black community, caregiving is deeply rooted in cultural traditions, with many individuals stepping up to care for aging family members, relatives with chronic illnesses, or loved ones with disabilities.

Organizations like The Senior Alliance are committed to ensuring that Black caregivers receive the resources, education, and advocacy needed to navigate their caregiving journeys successfully.

The Senior Alliance is happy to share its newest caregiving guide, Caregiving in the Black Community. This guide was developed with input and guidance from Healthier Black Elder Center.

Inside The Senior Alliance EP. 53

In this episode, Jason Maciejewski, CEO of The Senior Alliance, talks to Dave LaLumia, Executive Director of Area Agencies on Aging Association of Michigan (4AM), Stephanie Hall, Assistant Director of Planning and Advocacy at AgeWays, AAA 1B, and Emma Case, Planning and Advocacy Manager at The Senior Alliance.

They discuss the upcoming 2025 Michigan Legislative Session in Lansing and the many issues that the various Area Agencies on Aging are going to be focusing on, such as funding for many of the programs that help and benefit seniors all over the State.

They also talk about the changes that have been made to the various budget committees and the fact that much of the bills and issues that concern seniors have had no action in the Legislature.

Learn how you can get involved and who you can contact to help move things forward for aging adults.

Star of the Month: Ann Booker

We are thrilled to honor Ann Booker as our Star of the Month for February!

Here’s what her manager, Alicia, has to say about her:

“Ann consistently demonstrates reliability and a strong willingness to assist wherever needed. She is always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it’s driving,  delivering necessary items for the agency, taking/picking up our transits from the shop or picking up supplies, etc.

In addition, Ann played a pivotal role in completing the friendly reassurance surveys. She reached out to over 90 clients, conducted surveys, and ensured the information was accurately entered into the database. Her dedication and hard work have had a significant impact on the team.  I am grateful to have Ann as part of our team.”

Thank you, Ann, for all that you do!
