Honoring Caregivers in the Black Community
During this Black History Month, we honor the commitment and sacrifices of caregivers in the Black community.
Use our Resource Directory to get access to things like meal delivery, caregiving services, in-home help, and more.
The Senior Alliance is dedicated to providing vital support and resources to older adults and adults living with a disability in our community. Our mission is assisting people to thrive as they live, age, and grow. We empower individuals to live with dignity and independence by providing a comprehensive range of programs and services designed to meet their unique needs.
We are thrilled to be able to report another incredibly successful year of serving our community!
The MI Choice Medicaid Waiver Program is a cornerstone of our services, offering home and community-based support to eligible older adults and adults living with a disability. This program provides in-home services, allowing recipients to stay in a comfortable and familiar home or residential setting.
We also provide a variety of in-home services through the Older Americans Act. These programs help older adults maintain their independence and well-being in their homes.
Recognizing that food insecurity is a significant concern for many older adults, we are committed to providing nutritious meals and combating hunger in our community.
We actively engage in advocacy and outreach efforts to raise awareness about the needs of older adults and the services available to them,
We are often told how our volunteer drivers make a difference, and we are grateful for the care they provide to aging adults in our community by offering “rides of last resort” to medical and social service appointments.
We are incredibly grateful for the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of our donors. Indeed, your support is instrumental in enabling us to fulfill our mission to support aging adults, adults living with a disability, and their caregivers to thrive.
Our year was filled with success stories, and we’re excited to share some of them with you!
From one of our Care Managers: “An individual called in looking for homemaking assistance. He recently lost his wife of 60 years. He was so grateful that I was patient and understanding. He was thankful to have received homemaking resources, as well as information for grief support groups. After losing his lifelong partner, he was thankful that there were agencies that he could talk to for further support.”
From one of our participants: “Nice to have some company. It makes me feel good that someone cares. I have no family, so it gives me someone to talk to and lifts my spirits. My caller helped me get in contact with someone who can help with my needs.”
From our Transportation Manager: “A caller was a first time rider, and she was a bit nervous riding with a transportation service. I tried to reassure her that she would be treated like a queen. She had her ride on Friday and called to say how phenomenal her driver was!”
From the daughter of one of our participants: “I ordered a SIMPL radio for my mom. She had been asking about music channels on her cable, but she has trouble navigating her TV already. I got the radio and added some Vince Gill and some 80s country greatest hits. She LOVES it! She listens for hours every day now. I am having her make a list of other artists/songs she wants to add.”
From one of our participants: “A ramp that was provided to me a week ago will greatly help me as I work toward independence. I can go outside my kitchen by myself and outside my garage door for the first time. Thank you so much, Senior Alliance!”
As we reflect on the past year, we are proud of the positive impact The Senior Alliance has made in the lives of older adults, adults living with a disability, and their caregivers in our community.
We are deeply committed to continuing our work to ensure that all individuals have the opportunity to age with dignity, maintain their independence, and thrive where they live. We invite you to join us in this mission by supporting our programs, volunteering your time, or spreading awareness about our services.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who have given so much to our community.

The Senior Alliance had another incredibly successful year in 2023.

Every year, on March 3, we honor Caregiver Appreciation Day. This is a time to recognize and celebrate the unwavering dedication of caregivers who provide essential support to loved ones in need.
