Getting Where You Need to Go: Transportation Support for Wayne County Older Adults
Use our Resource Directory to get access to things like meal delivery, caregiving services, in-home help, and more.
A hot afternoon can turn dangerous faster than most people realize, especially for an older adult or someone living with a disability. Heat is one of the leading causes of weather-related illness and death, and older adults carry a disproportionate share of that risk.
Heavy sweating, dizziness, and nausea are one thing. Confusion, a racing pulse, and hot, dry skin are another, and telling them apart in the moment is what separates a scare from a real emergency. Knowing the difference, and having a plan for either, is worth a few minutes now, while things are calm, whether that plan is for yourself or for someone you’re keeping an eye on this summer.
If you’re not sure what to do next, or just want to talk through what support looks like, call 734.722.2830 to speak with an Information & Assistance Specialist at The Senior Alliance.
In the latest episode of Inside the Senior Alliance, Jason Maciejewski talks to Steve McCartney, Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency, Health and Wellness Analyst.
They discuss the services the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency provides; what services they provide for veterans, including senior and disabled veterans; and how the agency connects veterans to programs like benefits, housing, employment, and mental health resources.
They also talk about new initiatives the agency has launched, the kinds of barriers veterans face when trying to get access to the services, and the goals ahead for the coming years

Emma Shellhaas is recognized by her manager and colleagues for her clinical skill, quick thinking, and the warmth and positivity she brings to her participants and her team every day.
Here’s what her team has to say:
“Emma is someone I lovingly refer to as a ‘unicorn’ because she was able to learn and become proficient in Waiver in less than a year. She is a brilliant clinician who demonstrates confidence, positivity, knowledge, empathy, and humor when working with her participants and colleagues. She has a very bright future in front of her, and I am so pleased she chose to work in Waiver.” – Gail Wejrowski, Waiver Clinical Manager
“Emma consistently demonstrates an exceptional eye for detail that sets her apart — nothing slips through the cracks on her watch. She is a remarkably quick learner who embraces new information and challenges with enthusiasm and confidence. Emma brings a warm and positive energy to the team that makes her an absolute pleasure to work with every single day.” – Marissa Colling, Quality & Training Manager
Emma’s dedication to her participants, her eagerness to grow, and her genuine care for those around her make her a shining example of what The Senior Alliance is all about. Congratulations, Emma! This one is well deserved!
Call spoofing is when scammers use software to make you think you are receiving a local call or a call from agencies like Medicare, when really it’s someone pretending to be them to get personal information.
Be careful when answering calls and never give out your banking or Medicare information to someone who calls.
Report call spoofing to the Senior Medical Patrol at 877.808.2468.
