It’s a Good Day at TSA: March
March is National Social Work Month, giving us the opportunity to recognize the dedication and importance of our social workers.
At The Senior Alliance, we have a deep appreciation for the social workers who help us assist people to thrive as they live their way.
On our blog this month, we track the history of how social work came to be and highlight the barriers the field has helped to break in the U.S. Learn more about this, as well as the open position at The Senior Alliance for a social worker.

Inside The Senior Alliance
Podcast Episode 28:
Advocacy and legislation are the hot topics in this episode of Inside The Senior Alliance. Host and TSA CEO Jason Maciejewski sits down with Dave LaLumia, Executive Director of the Area Agencies on Aging Association of Michigan, known by the acronym of 4AM, and Katie Wendel, Director of Planning and Advocacy at Area Agency on Aging 1B and the facilitator of the Silver Key Coalition to discuss what might lie ahead in the upcoming Michigan Legislative session regarding older adults and aging policy.
Podcast Episode 29:
In the latest episode of the Inside The Senior Alliance podcast, Amy Gotwals, Chief, Public Policy and External Affairs of U.S. Aging, joins us to talk about the upcoming legislative session in Washington D.C. and how issues affecting aging adults might play out over the next couple of years. You can also find out how you can become an advocate and take a role in helping to shape supports and help for seniors in your local community, as well as in Michigan and nationwide.
Our MMAP (Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program) volunteers are active in our community to help answer questions and provide quality information about Medicare to older adults and their families.
See the calendars below (which can be clicked on to access a PDF for a larger view or to download the file) for a list of the senior centers, libraries, and other community locations where they will be throughout the year.
Remember, open enrollment for Medicare begins in October, so get your questions answered early!

Congratulations to March’s Star Performer, Brenda Phelps!
Brenda is an Information & Assistance Specialist, and her co-workers cannot stop singing her praises!
“There is a lot to say about Brenda, but I will keep it brief. Brenda brings strong assets to her role, and our Information & Assistance (I&A) department is incredibly fortunate to have her as one of our I&A specialists. She is dedicated and hardworking. She goes above and beyond for our callers and staff. She brings a positive, high energy and a personal touch. Even with a busy schedule, Brenda also manages to volunteer for Meals On Wheels once a month.
Thank you for all that you do Brenda. I appreciate you!”
–Alicia McDole, Information & Assistance/Transportation Manager
“Throughout the year, I have referred different callers (that I received through the CEO’s office) or referrals from board members to I & A, and Brenda happened to get assigned to those people to do a follow-up. Every caller/referral I have given her, I have received outstanding words of praise on all she has done to assist that person. No matter how frustrating, time consuming, and exhausting something is for Brenda, she never complains. She keeps a smile on her face, is professional, positive, calm, and goes way over and beyond to do what is right for the caller. She is a true super star, the ‘bestest ever,’ and someone I am proud to work with.” –Suzy Radocaj, Executive Administrative Assistant
We’re so proud of our team! Thank you!
