ACCESS EXHALE: A New Kind of Caregiver Support in Wayne County

If you’re a family caregiver, you know what it feels like to carry a heavy load—appointments, medications, meals, household needs, emotional support, and more. It can feel like there’s no space to pause, let alone breathe.

That’s where EXHALE comes in. Just like the name suggests, this new program offers caregivers caring for loved ones aged 60 and older permission–and a practical way–to take a breath.

The Senior Alliance is proud to partner with ACCESS (Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services) to bring this innovative caregiver support program to Michigan families.

Read our latest blog to learn more. Because caregiving doesn’t have to be a solo journey, ACCESS’s EXHALE program can connect you with others who understand.

Inside The Senior Alliance: EP 1.59

In this episode, Emma Case, Planning and Advocacy Manager at The Senior Alliance, talks to Amanda Sears, Chief Community Impact Officer at The Senior Alliance.

This episode is all about caregiving. Emma and Amanda discuss caregiving for seniors that involves family members, friends, or others in the community, and the resources available to them.

Caregiving is a very complex situation, and many people do not realize they are caregivers, or even realize that what they do to help someone is considered caregiving. Amanda details many of the things that people do for seniors or those unable to care for themselves, and how there are many supports and services available, free of charge, to help those caregivers.

Star of the Month: Lizzie D'Ambrosio

We are thrilled to honor Lizzie D’Ambrosio as our Star of the Month for September!

Lizzie is nominated by co-workers and managers alike. Here’s what our team has to say about her:

“Lizzie has never been nominated as Employee of the Month. I was shocked to hear this! She is always so helpful when it comes to day-to-day questions and is huge on boosting morale within our department. Extremely cheerful and positive, which we really need at times.” – Sarah Keel, co-worker

“Lizzie always has a great attitude and goes above and beyond for her participants. She completes all of her quality tasks on time and likes to make sure she is doing a good job. Lizzie always has a smile on her face, and I enjoy working with her.” – Katherine Zurenko, Quality & Training Manager

“Lizzie is such a bright light on the Waiver Team. She is always friendly, thoughtful, dependable, and considerate with both her colleagues and her participants. Whenever you see Lizzie, you can expect to see her dazzling smile and feel her genuine warmth, which helps her to build strong, trusting relationships very quickly. When Lizzie is working on a task, she always gives 110% and follows up very closely until the loop has been closed. She is always available to management, colleagues, and her participants, even outside of her normal hours. The Community Care Department was very fortunate to have swooped her up 5 years ago and to watch her grow and thrive as a social worker! – Gail Wejrowski, Waiver Services Manager

We appreciate you, Lizzie, for all that you do and the joy you bring to those around you. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!
