It’s a Good Day at TSA: May

We do this for our community. That includes you. Cover image for their Advocacy efforts.

The Senior Alliance is part of a statewide network of Area Agencies on Aging that administers services funded by the Older Americans Act and the Older Michiganians Act.

One of our missions is to serve as an advocate for older adults in our service area by monitoring, evaluating, and commenting on policies that affect older adults.

Check out our latest blog post to learn more about the legislative platform concerning aging adults in 2023, the advocacy work we do at The Senior Alliance, and how you can get involved.

Inside The Senior Alliance: Episode 31

In the latest episode of Inside the Senior Alliance, our host and CEO, Jason Maciejewski, talks with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.

Jason and Attorney General Nessel discuss:

  • The Elder Abuse Task Force that Attorney General Nessel created
  • How Michigan law enforcement agencies can use the guidelines that the Task Force has provided
  • How banks and credit unions are using the Elder Abuse Task Force guidelines on preventing financial exploitation.

They also discuss how to identify and report suspicions of elder abuse in the community and what steps Seniors can take to prevent becoming a victim of fraud or financial exploitation.

This is invaluable information for aging adults and their caregivers.

25 years with The Senior Alliance

We celebrated Lydia Gold’s 25th Anniversary with The Senior Alliance this month.

Lydia serves as our Chief Compliance Officer and has served in many roles during her 25-year career.

We are thankful for her service to the agency and the community. She is a true Superstar!

Passing the AIRS Certification Exam

Our own Brenda Phelps passed her AIRS Certification exam for Aging/Disabilities.

This certification is designed for individuals who work directly with clients and caregivers within the aging and/or disabilities area and have a special depth of knowledge related to this core client group.

We are so proud of Brenda and so thankful she is a part of our team at The Senior Alliance!

Star Performer

Congratulations to our Star Performer of the Month, Katherine Zurenko!

She is the epitome of a team player, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the ways that she supports our team and our clients every day!

Here is what Gail Wejrowski, Waiver Clinical Manager, has to say about her:

“Katherine is quite possibly the best thing to happen to TSA! Her housing knowledge, combined with her clinical skills, is unparalleled! Katherine has proven to be a master of juggling multiple hats. She is not only the housing coordinator, but she also runs the Nursing Facility Transition Program, enrolls brand new MI Choice Waiver participants AND keeps up with a small caseload while keeping a friendly demeanor and positive outlook.

Katherine volunteers to be part of many TSA projects. Her knowledge and creativity lend to her being sought out by other AAAs and TSA leaders to be part of TSA or statewide initiatives. She never refuses to participate in new projects or to lend a helping hand to her colleagues, participants, and community members.

I am not able to list all the things that Katherine does in this nomination because we would be here waaaayyy too long, but I think I speak for all of CCD/TSA when I say Katherine is an irreplaceable asset to TSA, and we are all so thankful for everything that she does!”

We’re so proud of our team! Thank you!
