Making a Difference: Volunteering with The Senior Alliance to Support Aging Adults

As April is National Volunteer Month, we recognize and appreciate the backbone of The Senior Alliance— our volunteers. Their commitment and dedication are the driving force behind our mission to support older adults in our community.

Our volunteers are the real heroes, offering their time and skills to make a tangible difference in the lives of older adults. Whether it’s helping someone navigate the ins and outs of Medicare, driving for Meals on Wheels in Wayne County, or advocating for the needs of aging adults and adults with disabilities, their contributions are invaluable.

Throughout this month, we celebrate the hard work and selflessness of our volunteers. They exemplify the spirit of service and remind us of the profound impact we can have when we come together to support our community.

Join us in honoring the volunteers of the Senior Alliance as we express our gratitude for their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of our older adults and learn about how volunteering is utilized at TSA.

Our MMAP Volunteers

The Michigan Medicare Assistance Program (MMAP) serves as Michigan’s unbiased, complimentary resource, aiming to empower older adults, individuals with disabilities, and their caregivers to navigate health benefit decisions with confidence.

MMAP relies on the expertise of volunteer counselors who undergo rigorous training and certification in Medicare and Medicaid. These counselors play a pivotal role in providing guidance on health benefits and fraud prevention, ensuring that individuals receive the support they need to make informed choices.

Visit our website for more information about MMAP and to sign up to become an MMAP counselor.

Volunteering through Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels stands as a lifeline for homebound individuals aged 60 and older, ensuring they receive nutritious hot meals and vital social interaction. Operating across the United States, this program has a robust network of over 5,000 independently run local programs, each dedicated to serving their community’s most vulnerable members.

Here at The Senior Alliance, we take great pride in being a cornerstone of support for our service area through the Meals on Wheels program. By partnering with local volunteers and community organizations, we ensure that older adults and adults with disability have access to nourishing meals delivered right to their doorstep, along with a friendly smile and a moment of companionship.

If you’re passionate about making a difference and are interested in volunteering with Meals on Wheels in Wayne County, we invite you to join our dedicated team. Whether you have a few hours to spare each week or wish to lend your support on a more regular basis, your contribution can make a world of difference to those in need.

Volunteering through Advocacy

At The Senior Alliance, our commitment to advocacy reflects our unwavering commitment to championing the rights, needs, and well-being of older adults and individuals living with disabilities within our service area. We firmly believe that every individual deserves access to essential resources such as nutrition, health care, and stable housing, and we strive to bridge the gap between these necessities and those who need them most.

Our advocacy efforts extend beyond mere words; we actively engage with elected officials at all levels of government, ensuring that the voices of our seniors and individuals with disabilities are heard loud and clear. By sharing their desires, needs, and concerns, we pave the way for policy changes and initiatives that prioritize the betterment of their lives. Our volunteers are instrumental in translating these conversations into tangible action items. Through their dedication and passion, they lend their voices to amplify the advocacy efforts of The Senior Alliance, driving meaningful change in our community and across the state of Michigan.
