Meals on Wheels programs operate in virtually every community in America through a network of more than 5,000 independently run local programs. While the diversity of each program’s services and operations may vary based on the needs and resources of their communities, we are all committed in supporting elderly neighbors to live healthier and more nourished lives in their own homes.
Together, we galvanize the resources of local community organizations, businesses, donors, sponsors, and more than two million volunteers – bolstered by supplemental funding from the Older Americans Act – into a national safety net for our older adults.
Holiday Meals- Due to the COVID pandemic, our regular warm holiday meal will be substituted by a holiday themed meal that will be delivered with the Wayne County Meals Program and paid for by The Senior Alliance.
The Holiday Meals program serves over 3,000 meals annually to home-bound senior clients on three holidays: Easter Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
These three holiday deliveries are separately planned, funded, and executed by a separate pool of volunteers. It is not affiliated with the full-time Meals on Wheels program delivered by Wayne County Meals on Wheels and funded by the Older Americans Act. The Senior Alliance is seeking private donations for the Holiday Meals Program to ensure that vulnerable and isolated seniors receive a nutritious meal on the holidays. The Holiday Meals Program Committee at The Senior Alliance is passionate about the continuation of this program because we believe that a hot meal and a friendly smile on a day most people spend with family makes a difference in the lives of vulnerable and isolated seniors.
The Holiday Meals program serves home-bound seniors age 60+ that are currently served by the Home Delivered Meals program or are homebound and receiving congregate meals. If you are interested in learning more about the program, please contact our Holiday Meals line at: 734-736-6065.
If you are interested in becoming a Holiday Meals volunteer, please contact: Lauren Wonsowski at firstname.lastname@example.org or 734-727-2073.
Individuals age 60 and older can get a hot lunch on weekdays at any of the 41 community lunch sites. The meals provide at least one-third of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA). Meal reservations and cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance. Donations are encouraged, with a suggested donation of $3.00 per meal.
