It’s a Good Day at TSA: November

The holiday season is a time of joy, giving, and celebration, but unfortunately, it’s also a time when scammers are more active than ever. For aging adults, the risk of falling victim to holiday scams can be especially high. As we age, it’s important to stay vigilant and protect ourselves from these cunning fraudsters.

With The Senior Alliance, we can help you keep your loved ones safe from holiday scams this season.

Services

Give Hunger a Holiday

1 in 7 older adults in the U.S. struggle with food insecurity. On the holidays when traditional food delivery services are not available, aging adults in our community count on The Senior Alliance to provide a hot meal.

Thanks to your generosity, in 2022, over 3,300+ holiday meals were delivered to older adults who would have otherwise gone hungry.

What Drives You (to volunteer)?

Our nation’s aging population is growing rapidly, with more and more people living longer lives with less money available to them. And today, with our nation experiencing the highest inflation rate in 40 years, the aging population is especially vulnerable.

Many count on Meals on Wheels to provide for their most basic needs.

Meals on Wheels volunteers are essential to caring for our community’s most vulnerable. Sign up now and help us make a difference in Wayne County.

We love hearing the stories of how The Senior Alliance has made a difference in the lives of our community members. When we get to share them with you, it’s A Good Day at TSA!

Here’s a story from one of our Michigan Medicare Assistance Program (MMAP) counselors:

“A client who called us had a VERY strong speech impediment due to a past stroke that made it harder to communicate. She repeatedly said, ‘No one will help me.’

With a lot of time, we attacked her issues together. She originally stated that she wanted to change her Medicaid plan to a plan with all the parts together. We reviewed her benefits and discussed options for her to consider. She was eligible to make a change to her plan and chose to enroll in one that worked better for her situation.

The client was very pleased because she has a disability that makes it hard to communicate, and we were successful in doing what she wanted. She said she felt ‘lost and confused’ at the beginning of our call and was ‘very grateful and pleased’ when we ended our call.”

Thank you to every volunteer MMAP counselor who is working on behalf of our participants to help them understand their Medicare options, especially now during open enrollment.

You can learn more about MMAP, open enrollment, and how you can become an MMAP volunteer counselor through The

Star Performer of the Month: Shree Marshall

Congratulations to our Star Performer of the Month, Shree Marshall!

Here is what her manager, Michelle Danou, says about Shree:

“Shree has embraced the ombudsman role. Since she joined the program, her knowledge of long-term care, regulations, and advocacy strategies has been amazing.

Being a new ombudsman can be difficult and challenging – learning to navigate all the moving pieces, CMS QSO changes, regulations, and getting to know numerous buildings, staff, and residents.

Shree is an amazing support and advocate for her residents and always thinks outside of the box to assist in resolving concerns. She is empathetic and uses active listening with her residents. Her support has assisted several residents who were having difficulty with family conflict which resulted in resolving resident concerns.

Her willingness to be a team player speaks volumes. She has joined me on visits when there were building-wide concerns reports. Her response was, ‘Where and when are we going?’

Shree has developed numerous positive relationships with her residents and has become a fierce advocate. We are fortunate to have her on our team!”
